HFA Mom

from Georgia

It’s not only somebody I can talk to and confide in, but somebody who helps me be a better mom… [I am] learning how to better empathize with my child and to better understand him and his signals and his signs.”

Nancy Gwin

HFA State Leader, Indiana

The model is set up so that everybody has some input in the process.  I have been with Healthy Families for 17 years. I started out as a home visitor… now I’ve moved up and am the director over several programs in our state, and throughout that entire process I have always felt like there are people who are interested in knowing what I think about the work, what works and what doesn’t.

Kathleen Strader

National Director, Healthy Families America

Everything we do as humans centers around relationships. Yet relationships don’t always come easy… being able to utilize strategies that bring out the essence of our most basic human need–the ability to relate to others in positive ways–is life-changing, for adults and children.

Raecine

HFA Mom from Kansas

He was a tiny baby—3 pounds, 15 ounces, but he was full term, and that was the scariest thing… [but I learned to] work with him where he needs to be, and to bond with him on that level, and that brings us closer together.

HFA Supervisor

I wanted to be sure that my work aligned with my love for community, early childhood, and prevention work [as well as] my lived experience as a parent in poverty in my hometown, and I have a dream job with HFA now! Knowing that the program is parent and family-led through the parallel process is part of my “why.”

HFA Parents

from Cincinnati, Ohio

Parenting does not come with a manual… you don’t always know what to do. You don’t always know the questions to ask. You don’t know if other people are going through it. So, Healthy Families brings you that comfort in knowing we are all going through this.

HFA Training & TA Manager, Former Program Manager

HFA really encourages us to focus on those “in the moment”, moments between home visitors and families – there’s not a prescribed curriculum or script that we should be using –  it really supports us with being able to be flexible.

What makes HFA unique?

Explore if HFA is the right fit for you and your community.

A relational health model

HFA embodies the cornerstones of healthy relationships. Once parents experience safety, predictability, comfort, and joy in a genuine way and in the context of a relationship with another, they are able to provide the same experience for their children.

Backed by strong evidence

HFA’s evidence is rigorous, with 40+ peer-reviewed published articles and 13+ randomized control trials by independent researchers.

Flexible to meet the unique needs of families and communities

Healthy Families was designed from the very beginning with flexibility in mind allowing every community the ability to tailor portions of the model to meet their needs and the needs of each family.

We embody the parallel process in our support of affiliates

Technical Assistance (TA) provided by the national office is collaborative, rather than directive and it is strength-based. National Office TA Specialists utilize the same values and reflective approach with sites that supervisors use with staff, and direct service staff use with families.
